Wilbert E. Potter, 82, of St. Paul, died unexpectedly, Sunday, Nov. 7, 2021, at the Howard County Medical Center in St. Paul.
Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church in St. Paul. The Rev. Susan Murithi will officiate. Burial will be in the Elmwood Cemetery in St. Paul.
Visitation will be Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the United Methodist Church.
Peters Funeral Home of St. Paul is assisting the family.
Wilbert was born on Dec. 18, 1938, at Sumner, Nebraska, the son of Lloyd E. and Laura A. (Summers) Potter. He grew up and received his education in Sumner.
He served in the Nebraska Army National Guard from 1956 to 1959.
He was united in marriage to Marie Hrebec on Nov. 8, 1959, at Central City. The couple first lived in Grand Island and Burwell until moving to St. Paul in 1962. Wilbert worked as a meat cutter for many years at Havlik’s Locker and Jack & Jill grocery store, both in St. Paul. Upon retiring, he and Marie moved to Bella Vista, Arkansas, before returning to St. Paul in 2002.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church in St. Paul.
Wilbert enjoyed fishing, cribbage and playing cards.
He is survived by his children and spouses, Carey and Rick Chism of Axtell, Jim and Charlene Potter of St. Paul, Brian Potter of Omaha, and Brenda and Mark Starkey of St. Paul; 9 grandsons; 5 granddaughters; and 10 great-grandchildren; sisters, Virginia McCurdy of Wood River and Dorothy “Dot” Krance of Palmer; and sister-in-law, Marge Buresh of Kearney.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marie on Nov. 1, 2019; brother and sister-in-law, LeRoy and Mary Jane Potter; sister and brothers-in-law, Margaret “Peg” and D.L. Parks, Marvin McCurdy, Francis Buresh and Emil Hrebec; and in-laws, James and Elma Hrebec.
