Terry was born on Nov. 6, 1957, the son of Ivan P. “Butch” and Erma L. (Matousek) Rasmussen, in St. Paul, Nebraska. He grew up on the family farm, north of St. Paul, in the Fairdale-Logan area. He attended District 21 Howard County Rural School and St. Paul High School, where he was on the wrestling team. Terry graduated with the Class of 1976.
After graduation, Terry moved to Grand Island and worked in construction. He later moved to Wyoming and Houston, TX, where he worked for a cement Redi-Mix plant. While in Texas, Terry would return home to help his parents on the farm. In the mid-1980s, Terry returned to Nebraska to farm with his father.
Once back in Nebraska, Terry expanded the farm by raising cattle. He briefly worked in construction on the side and was part of the team that built St. Francis Medical Center.
In 2021, Terry began farming and ranching with his son, Zach, continuing to do so for the rest of his life. Together, Terry and Zach doubled the size of their cattle herd and returned to planting crops.
Terry’s hobbies included spending time with his beloved grandchildren, playing cards and shooting pool, hunting, and fishing. He was a diehard Husker fan and never missed a game. Terry loved his cattle and was always known to enjoy a cigar.
He is survived by his children: son, Nathan and Michaela Rasmussen of Lincoln; daughters, Sarah and Ryan Robinson of Cedar Rapids, and Amanda Schaefer; and son, Zach and Jesse Rasmussen of St. Paul; his mother, Erma Rasmussen of St. Paul; and six grandchildren, Sophie, Finley, Harper, Reagan, Flynn, and Rivan.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ivan Rasmussen.
