Mark was born on Nov. 26, 1949, in Loup City, Nebraska, to Joseph and Mary (Synak) Mendyk. He received his education in Loup City and graduated from Central Catholic High School with the class of 1968. After graduating, Mark moved to Omaha where he worked for Scoular-Bishop Grain Company. He was united in marriage to Cindi Ewers on June 25, 1971. The couple lived in Omaha before moving to St. Paul in 1972.

Back in St. Paul, the couple raised their family, and five children were born to this union. During these years, Mark worked as a bricklayer for Lynn Hill, later as a custodian at St. Paul Public School, and eventually at Monfort’s and Atlantic Homes in Grand Island until his health forced him to retire.

Mark was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. He loved telling stories—sometimes real, and sometimes humorously fabricated. A lifelong Nebraska Cornhuskers fan, he loved all Husker sports and never missed a chance to cheer them on. He also enjoyed watching NASCAR, reading a good book, and was deeply patriotic, celebrating the Fourth of July each year with a big party and plenty of fireworks. Mark loved playing horseshoes and was always the life of the party, known for his humor and his ability to make people laugh.

He is survived by Cindi of St. Paul; five children and their spouses, Tamie and JT Tomlinson of St. Paul, Paula and Matt Roberts of Grand Island, Mindy and Brandon Matlock of St. Paul, Mickey and Ryan Rasmussen of Elba, and Matt Mendyk of Grand Island; 11 grandchildren, Whitney, Tia (Austin), Ivy (Isaiah), Tanner, Jay, Terran, Trevon, Natalia, Shia, Paisley, and Arjay; and six great-grandchildren, Ellis, Abbott, Hank, Holt, Olsen, and Navy. He is also survived by his siblings, Janie Rein of Grand Island, Max and Ruth Mendyk of Phillips, and his twin sister Margie and Ron Kitchen of Lincoln; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Dick and Vicki Ewers of Grand Island; along with numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Mary Mendyk; siblings, Richard “Dick” and Sylvia Mendyk, Dorothy and Chet Barnett, Jerome “Bear” Mendyk, Jeanne Hickey, Lawrence Mendyk, Mickey and Ron Rauss, Virgie and Joe Neal, and Mike Mendyk; his brother-in-law, Allen “Duke” Rein; his in-laws, Bernice and Paul Ewers; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Shirley and Ken Buck; Arlene and Dick Jepson; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Gene and Pat Ewers.
