LG was born on September 25, 1928, in Berwyn, Nebraska, the son of LG Davolt Sr. and Veva (Waterbury) Davolt. The family moved to Merna when he was just 2 years old. He attended Merna Public Schools and graduated with the Class of 1947. Following graduation, LG attended business school in Chillicothe, Missouri, for two years. On July 30, 1950, he was united in marriage to Garrel Eileen Hostick in Grand Island, Nebraska. To this union, four children were born.
LG entered the United States Army and proudly served his country during the Korean War. Following his military service, he attended the Nebraska Trade School of Milford, where he studied watchmaking and clock repair. After completing the program, LG and Garrel settled in St. Paul, where they owned and operated a jewelry and clock repair store for 20 years. During his years in St. Paul, he served as president of the St. Paul School Board, was a long-standing member of the St. Paul Chamber of Commerce. He also served as a Sunday school teacher for many years at the St. Paul United Methodist Church. The family later moved to Grand Island, where they continued operating the business at Conestoga Mall.
Garrel passed away on July 18, 1980. Following her death, LG moved the business to his home, where he continued serving customers.
In 1984, LG married Alvina (Ratzlaff) Friesen. The couple made their home in Grand Island until moving to Henderson, Nebraska, in 1997. While living in Henderson, LG continued his watchmaking and clock repair business from his home and also worked part-time at Henderson Pharmacy.
Alvina passed away on October 23, 2020. In 2022, LG moved back to St. Paul, where he remained for the rest of his life.
LG attended Christ Lutheran Church in St. Paul. LG enjoyed staying active and had many hobbies, including fishing, golfing, playing pool and cards, wood carving, painting, completing Sudoku puzzles, and reading—he was rarely without a book in his hands. A quiet man of faith, LG loved the Lord and prayed often. His family could always count on him to lead them in prayer at family gatherings.
