Les D. Stark

Leslie D. “Les” Stark, 75, of Central City, died Friday, Dec. 2, 2016, at the Central City Care Center. Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Grand Island. The Rev. Ron Krause will officiate. Inurnment will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Grand Island. Visitation will be Thursday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the church. Peters Funeral Home of St. Paul is in charge of the arrangements. Mr. Stark was born on Sept. 30, 1941, at Paxton, the son of Glenn and Jessie (Pinkney) Stark. In 1943, the family moved to Fairfield, where he received his early education. In 1955, they moved to a farm east of Grand Island in Merrick County, where he attended District 17 rural school. He was a 1959 graduate of Grand Island Senior High School. He continued his education at Nebraska Vocational Technical College in Milford, where he graduated in 1962 as a diesel tech. Les was united in marriage to Marlene R. Oberschulte, the love of his life, on Oct. 12, 1963, at Grace Lutheran Church in Grand Island. To this union two daughters were born. Over the years he worked as a diesel mechanic in North Platte and Grand Island, retiring from his own mechanic shop, Tri-Co Repair in 1986. He then began working for Riverside Golf Course in grounds maintenance, retiring in early 2016, due to health complications. In January 2016, the couple moved to Central City, where he lived the rest of his life. He enjoyed camping, fishing, spending time with his family and friends, playing cards and dutch oven cooking. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the Platt-Duetsche of Grand Island. He is survived by his wife, Marlene of Central City; two daughters and sons-in-law, Deb and Todd Norman of Grand Island and Becky and Jeff Westwood of Waco; granddaughter, Jordan Norman and Andy Imus of Farwell; grandson, Trevor and Jessica (Bader) Norman of Grand Island; one great granddaughter, Jaylynn; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Arlene and Orlo Carriker of Phillips and Janet and Steve Rainforth of Doniphan; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Lorraine (Schleichardt) and Lee Krecklow of Grand Island; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Mel and Lorraine Oberschulte of Grand Island; numerous nieces and nephews; and a special fishing buddy, Conner Sonderup of Fullerton. Les was preceded in death by his parents; brother-in-law, Don Schleichardt; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Evelyn and Freddie Weber; and one nephew, John Weber. The family requests, in lieu of flowers, that memorials be made to the family's choice.
