James "Jim" C. Malone, Jr.

James C. “Jim” Malone, Jr., 77, of Lincoln, died Monday, May 6, 2024, at Bryan East Campus in Lincoln.

Memorial Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, May 10, 2024, at Trinity United Church in Lincoln. The Rev. Jeff Slater will officiate. A luncheon will follow at the church. Inurnment will be at a later date in the St. Wenceslaus Cemetery west of St. Paul, NE.

Peters Funeral Home of St. Paul is assisting the family.

Memorials are suggested to the Lincoln Southeast Kiwanis Foundation or to Trinity United Methodist Church.

Jim was born on March 6, 1947, in Meridian, Mississippi, the son of James C. and Mamie E. (Cox) Malone, Sr. 

He spent his childhood in Birmingham, Alabama. He attended Samford University, majoring in accounting.

He then was employed at Godchaux-Henderson Cane Sugar Co. in Louisiana. In 1979, Jim relocated to Denver, working for Great Western Sugar Co. where he met the love of his life.

He was united in marriage to Noreen M. Safarik on Nov. 26, 1980, at a small Methodist church in Denver. They would have celebrated their 44th wedding anniversary this November. 

In Dallas, TX he purchased a popcorn shop and one in Denver. After selling the business Jim went to work for very close friends at Clark & Wright Trucking, Inc.

With retirement getting closer the couple moved to Lincoln to be closer to family and be able to attend their nieces and nephews, volleyball, football and basketball games.

In Lincoln, Jim worked for Star City Motor Sports beginning in 1999. He loved working there until his retirement in 2013.

He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Lincoln. He was a longtime member of the Plano Kiwanis Club and the Southeast Kiwanis Club in Lincoln. 

Jim loved sports and music. He never missed a Nebraska or Alabama football game, Nebraska Volleyball and Basketball games and also enjoyed high school sports. Jim always had music playing at his home or in his car.

He is survived by his wife, Noreen of Lincoln; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; nieces and nephews; and many friends from Texas, Colorado and Nebraska.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother; sister, Billie Young; in laws, Wilfred and Isabelle Safarik; sister-in-law and brother-in-law; and beloved friends, Bill and Jackie Clark.
