Jim was born on May 5, 1938, at Cushing, the son of Malven and Marie (Silk) Jepson. He received his education in country schools in the Cushing area. He attended Palmer High School and graduated from St. Paul High School.
He was united in marriage to Jean L. Erickson, on May 14, 1961, at St. Paul. The couple lived in Grand Island. Jim worked for the Southern Public Powers District for 40 years before retiring.
In November 1999, the couple moved to an acreage near Boelus. Jean died on Nov. 3, 2015. Jim continued to live on the acreage until the summer of 2024, when he moved to Grand Island to be closer to his children.
He was an active member of Grace United Methodist Church in Boelus. His passion was for bow hunting. He belonged to many archery associations. He was a lifetime member of the Third City Archers and a member of the Mid Nebraska Bow Hunters. He was a past president of the Professional Archers Association and an active member of the National Field Archers Association.
Needless to say, Jim loved hunting and watching wildlife. This is why he and Jean purchased the acreage near Boelus. He hunted in South Africa, New Zealand, Canada and all over the Untied States. He loved spending time and also hunting with his two grandsons.
He is survived by his daughter, Shelley Jepson of Grand Island; son and daughter-in-law, David and Christy Jepson of Doniphan; two grandsons, Ryan Jepson of Lincoln and Collin Jepson of Doniphan; four sisters, Sally Levene of Grand Island, Pat and Gordon Wieck of Worms; Linda Helzer of Grand Island and Kathy Glause of Kearney.
In addition to his wife, Jean, he was preceded in death by his parents; son, Steve Miles; infant sister, Darlene Marie Jepson and sister, Shirley Wohlers.
