Ivan T. Lukasiewicz

Ivan T. Lukasiewicz, 90, of St. Paul, died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013, at the Good Samaritan Society – Grand Island Village in Grand Island. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in St. Paul. The Revs. Ray Kosmicki and James Murphy will officiate. Burial will be in the Elmwood Cemetery in St. Paul. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the church. Peters Funeral Home of St. Paul is in charge of the arrangements. Mr. Lukasiewicz was born on Oct. 26, 1922, at Farwell, the son of Alois and Wanda (Lorkowski) Lukasiewicz. He was united in marriage to LaFerne E. Jensen on Aug. 29, 1945, in Farwell. She preceded him in death on April 21, 2012. He is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis and Sue, Donald and DeEtte and Brian and Audrey, all of St. Paul; six grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. Ivan grew up and received his education in the Farwell area. He then farmed as a young man with his father. After his marriage to LaFerne, the couple moved to Omaha where he worked at a grain elevator and as a welder. They later moved to Giltner. In 1964, they moved to a farm north of St. Paul where they farmed for many years. He was a member of St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council 1918 and Farmers Union. He was a former member of the Platt Duetsche and Eagles of Grand Island. He had also served as a Howard County Commissioner. Ivan enjoyed old tractors, overhauling old gas engines and playing cards and he loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Edwin Lukasiewicz; and two sisters, Leona Wissbaum and Gertrude Galligani. Memorials are suggested to Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church or the Howard County Medical Center Foundation.

Sorry to read of Ivan's passing, but he had a good life and was always interesting to visit with when I visited StPaul. Now, both Ivan and cousin LaFerne have gone on to better things. May the best be yours in the future. Paul E Rasmussen, Pendleton OR

We are sorry to hear of the loss of your dad and granddad. Dad would have been sorry too, as he always asked me about how Ivan was doing.

To the Lukasiewicz family... It was bittersweet to hear that Ivan had passed on to be with our Lord on Sunday. While you lost a great man who did many great things throughout his life...many of us lost a great friend and gentle mentor. Ivan was one of those rare people who found the good in everyone and gave each a chance to be respected regardless of their previous reputation or missteps. Life on earth is a journey...each of us are given the same tools and sent down the path of life to succeed or fail, to love or hate, to be kind or mean, to help or hinder, and to continue on or surrender. Ivan fought the good fight, he spread the good word through his actions and deeds and was a role model for many. What a Life he had!I know he was ready to move on to be with our Lord and to be with those who had gone on before him...and yet it is still hard to let him go and to say goodbye. I am sure he would say to continue on fighting the good fight and to not be afraid of what tomorrow will bring. I also believe you will see him again. With all our Love and Respect...Mike and Robyn McCann.
