Elsie Moravec

Elsie Moravec, 92, of Grand Island, died Saturday, Aug. 15, 2009, the Wedgewood Care Center in Grand Island. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Peters Funeral Home in St. Paul. The Rev. Martha Voigt will officiate. Burial will be at 1 p.m. in the Cotesfield Cemetery at Cotesfield. Visitation will be Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Mrs. Moravec was born on June 17, 1917, at St. Paul, the daughter of John and Mary (Pavlik) Kotrc. She was preceded in death by her husband, Emil W. Moravec. She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Rebecca Moravec of Lincoln; and one daughter, Fern A. Place of St. Libory. She is also survived by six grandchildren and spouses, Melanie and Andy Horel, Nancy Moravec, Rick Place, Kenneth and Rita Place, Sheri and Darrell Adams, and Scott A. Place; six great-grandchildren, Aiden Horel, Heather Place, Angela Bennett and her husband, Brad, Sean Place, Dustin Comp and his wife, Kim, and Danielle Comp; and two great-great-grandchildren, Jayden Bowie and Chase Comp. Elsie grew up east of St. Paul where she attended Howard County rural school. She was united in marriage to Emil W. Moravec on Dec. 12, 1935, at St. Paul. The couple farmed west of Cotesfield until moving to California in 1957. They later returned to Nebraska, living in Cotesfield, Bennington and Omaha. Mr. Moravec died in June 1983 and Elsie resided in Plattsmouth, Omaha, St. Libory and Grand Island. She enjoyed playing cards, sewing, reading, wood working and collecting teddy bears. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, infant Joseph, Fred, Rudolph and James Kotrc; and four sisters, infant Marie Kotrc, Agnes Jensen, Julia Halla and Martha Sobotka. Memorials are suggested to the family’s choice.

Ron, Fern and Family, I was saddened to learn of your Mother's passing. It was always a joy to see her again at church and community gatherings. And I must admit--it was your Mother (not my Dad) who gave me the most valuable tip for making the best kolaches!! Susanne

Melanie and family, I heard a lot about Grandma Elsie from Melanie. I am sure she will be very missed. Remember the good times you had with her during your sad times, now. God Bless! Kasey
