Donald was born December 25, 1941, on a farm north of Cotesfield, the son of Fred M. and Grace F. (Gydesen) Poss. He grew up on the farm and attended country school. He graduated in the eighth grade and began working for several farmers in the area.

On June 6, 1964, Donald was united in marriage to Mary Soloman at the United Methodist Church in Scotia. To this union, four children were born: Sharon, Keith, Randy, and Kevin. The family lived on a farm outside of North Loup before moving to Grand Island. While living there, Donald worked for Chief Industries.

In 1979, the family moved to an acreage outside of Scotia, where Donald farmed and raised cattle and hogs. Donald later worked for the Greeley County Department of Roads.

After 20 years, Donald retired and moved to Wolbach, where he met many friends and became very close with his companion, Ruth McIntyre.

Donald was a member of the United Methodist Church in Scotia.

Donald faithfully listened to KNLV’s Polka Show and enjoyed watching wrestling on television, going gambling, and attending auctions. He loved going to Husker Harvest Days, Popcorn Days, parades, and any family gathering. Don especially enjoyed the holidays, particularly Halloween and Christmas. In his quieter moments, he liked chocolate cake and cupcakes, drawing horses, and going fishing.

Don is survived by his daughter, Sharon and Russell Timmons of North Loup; sons, Keith Poss and fiancée Leah Cabrera of North Loup, and Kevin and Jodi Poss of St. Paul; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; sister, Erma Neel of North Loup; brother, Kenneth Poss and Linda Morrow of North Loup; and sister-in-law, Elizabeth Poss of Scotia.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Randy Poss; brothers, Darwin and Jean Poss, and Melvin Poss; infant brother, Richard Poss; and brother-in-law, Bill Neel.
