David was born on Dec. 7, 1932, in St. Paul, the son of Joseph and Prudence (Kezeor) Gorecki. He grew up in the Farwell and Boelus areas, where he attended country schools and was a 1950 graduate of Boelus High School.
He enlisted in the United States Army in 1952 and served until his discharge in 1954.
He was united in marriage to Bernice C. “Bunny” Sturek on Sept. 14, 1954, in St. Paul. The couple lived and farmed in the Farwell and Loup City areas. Over the years that David farmed, he also had many other side jobs, including Oxnard Sugar Beet Factory and Case New Holland, both in Grand Island, and St. Paul Public Schools. In 1990, the couple moved into Farwell, where they lived the rest of their married life. Bunny passed away on May 4, 2022. In later years, David resided in North Loup.
David was a very active member of St. Anthony’s Church. He served as a greeter, usher, lector, Eucharistic minister, and catechist instructor for over 20 years. He also sang in the church choir and St. Anthony’s men’s choir, and in his younger years played trumpet in Leon Nesiba’s polka band.
He was a member of the Ashton American Legion Post 108 and Knights of Columbus Council No. 1918 of St. Paul. He also served on various boards and belonged to the Farwell and Ashton Community Clubs.
He loved the soil, raising and working cattle, and cutting hay, but most of all, he loved his family.
He is survived by his children and spouses, Deb and Mark Clifford of Hayes Center; Tom Gorecki and Lavon Coufal of Scotia; Marc and Becky Gorecki of North Loup; John and Kelly Gorecki of Ravenna; Theresa and Daryl Krolikowski of Dannebrog; Jim Pekarek of Stromsburg; Jean Gorecki of Hastings; and Marie and Travis Wilkinson of Culbertson; 17 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren.
