David was born on July 22, 1964, in Loup City, Nebraska, the son of Jerome and Mary (Knebel) Carkoski. He grew up on the family farm north of Loup City. David attended Loup City Public Schools and graduated from Loup City High School.

After graduating from high school, David farmed on the family farm. He later worked for Bob Klimek before beginning his own farming operation, where he primarily raised hogs. In addition to operating his own farm, David also provided custom farming services for others.

David was united in marriage to Cindy Wojtalewicz on May 12, 1990, in Loup City. To this union, one daughter, Andrea, was born.

David also worked for Ken's Equipment and Setlik Feedlot before joining Welton Trucking in Burwell, where he purchased his own truck. David began driving for Blackstrap Trucking Company in 2012 and remained there until his passing. Whether on the farm, in the shop, or on the road, David had a knack for fixing just about anything and was always willing to lend a helping hand.

David was a member of St. Josaphat's Catholic Church in Loup City and the Knights of Columbus.

David's hobbies included attending jackpot sheep shows, cheering on the Minnesota Vikings, celebrating the Fourth of July with fireworks, attending the Sherman County Fair, and watching his grandchildren show sheep. He recently discovered a love for boating and treasured taking his grandchildren for evening lake cruises, creating memories they will cherish for years to come. For the past nine years, his faithful dog, Jack, was his constant trucking companion, traveling countless miles by his side.

David was incredibly proud of his daughter, Andrea, and the accomplishments and advancements she has achieved throughout her medical career.

Nothing brought David greater joy than his grandchildren. He was a constant presence in their lives, spending countless hours with them and creating memories they will cherish forever. More than a grandfather, David was a steady source of love, guidance, and encouragement, filling a role much like a father to them. His kindness, unwavering support, and the pride he had in each of his grandchildren will be remembered always.

David is survived by his daughter, Andrea Carkoski of Loup City; grandchildren, Brendan, Ella, and Claire Carkoski; brothers and sisters-in-law, Philip and Missy Carkoski of Loup City and Gerald and Sue Carkoski of Grand Island; sisters and brothers-in-law, Rose and Bill Stobbe of Grand Island, Virginia and Troy Hobbs of Grand Island, and Linda and Tim Pawloski of Farwell; former wife, Cindy Carkoski; many nieces and nephews; and his faithful trucking companion, Jack.

David was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister, Theresa Carkoski.
