Anthony J. "Tony" Sabin Sr.

Anthony J. “Tony” Sabin Sr., 53, of St. Libory, died Thursday, August 5, 2021, near St. Paul.

Liturgy of The Word will be 10 am, Thursday, at St. Libory’s Catholic Church in St. Libory. The Reverend Sidney Bruggeman will officiate. Burial with military honors will be in the parish cemetery.


Visitation will be Wednesday, from 5 to 7 pm, at the church.


In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the family.


Peters Funeral Home of St. Paul is assisting the family.


Anthony was born on September 15, 1967, at Ft. Belvoir, in Alexandria, Virginia, the son of SFC Paul and Ann (Godwin) Sabin. As a child he lived in Germany, Colorado, and Ft. Meyers, Florida.


He attended school in Ft. Meyers before entering the United States Army in 1985. He was stationed in the Republic of Korea with the 7th Cavalry and trained as a Cavalry Scout and Assistant NBC BCO. There he attended Ranger School and the Imjin Scout Course. After Korea, he was assigned to the 2nd Squadron, 1st Cavalry Regiment of the 2nd Armored Division. He later attached to the 110th Bundeswehr. While there, he was awarded the Silver Schützenschnur for weapons proficiency. His next duty assignment was in the 134th Infantry Regiment as an Infantryman Sniper, until being assigned as an automatic machine gunner. He later became a Team Leader and Assistant Squad Leader. After his active duty, he moved to Nebraska and enlisted in the National Guard.

He was united in marriage to Kristin K. Tyma on June 15, 1991, at St. Libory's Catholic Church in St. Libory. The couple lived in St. Libory and Tony worked for Leo Liske construction and later for Peavey Grain, until suffering a back injury that left him disabled.


Anthony enjoyed working on and building four-wheel drive vehicles, being in the woods, bow hunting with friends, and making people laugh. He was a member of the Purple Fish Motorcycle Club.


He is survived by his wife, Kristi Sabin of St. Libory; children, Lexi Christensen of Overton, Dakota Sabin of St. Libory and Lizzie Sabin of St. Libory; two grandchildren, Reno and Brooklyn; his mother, Ann Sabin of Mobile, AL; brothers and sister-in-law, Edward and Lisa Sabin and Seneca Sabin; in-laws, Mick and Carolyn Tyma of St. Paul; brother-in-law, Doug Tyma and Julie of St. Libory; and nieces and nephews.


He was preceded in death by his father; son, Anthony J. “A.J.” Sabin, Jr. on Nov. 22, 2012; brother-in-law, David Tyma, Sr.; and grandparents.
