Anita Mae Jepson, 85, of St. Paul, died Thursday, March 12, 2026, surrounded by her family at CHI Health Nebraska Heart Institute in Lincoln.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 16, 2026, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in St. Paul. Jan Anderson, P.M.A., will officiate. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery in St. Paul. Peters Funeral Home of St. Paul is assisting Anita’s family.
Anita was born on April 29, 1940, in St. Paul, the daughter of Floyd and Erma (Grossart) McLain. She was raised in Washington State but moved back to St. Paul, where she graduated from St. Paul High School in May of 1958. She then attended Kearney State College for one year.
She was united in marriage to Larry G. Jepson on June 21, 1959, in St. Paul. The couple first lived in Grand Island but returned to St. Paul in 1966. Anita worked for the Howard County Treasurer and the Howard County Assessor until she and Larry purchased the Circle J Drive Inn in March of 1972, which they operated together until selling the drive-in on Oct. 1, 1991. At that time, she began working for Pamela M. Baker, CPA, in St. Paul, and in 1996 she worked for McDermott and Miller in Grand Island. On Nov. 18, 1997, Anita became employed by the City of St. Paul and retired from the City on Jan. 1, 2007.
Anita and Larry were blessed with twin sons, Terry and Todd, and a daughter, Lori. Anita’s family meant the world to her, and she was always there for all of them. If any of the grandchildren had a sporting event, you would find her there.
Anita was a longtime member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church and became an EMT for the St. Paul Rescue Squad in 1986. She had a great passion for the citizens of St. Paul and was very proud to serve as an EMT. She also enjoyed volunteering for the baseball association and the Howard County Medical Center.
She is survived by her children and spouses, Terry and Lori Jepson of Grand Island, Todd Jepson of Grand Island, and Lori and Dwayne Maddox of St. Paul; seven grandchildren, Nicole and Quentin Miller of Kearney, Jeremy Jepson and Traci of Wood River, Tiffani Jepson and Mike of Wood River, Melissa Jepson and Russell Huntley of St. Libory, Justin and Brittany Maddox of Palmer, Dr. Derek and Sarah Maddox of Grand Island, and Tanner Maddox of Omaha; great-grandchildren Lexy, Devin, Brayden, Madi, Landon, Ryan, Savannah, Bodie, Paisley, Braelynn, Blaze, Candyn, and Dakota; a sister, Jan Skala of Lincoln; and brother-in-law Rod Creathbaum of Sierra Vista, AZ.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Larry, on Aug. 29, 2021; sister Marilyn Creathbaum; brother-in-law Roger Skala; in-laws Orval and Mae Jepson; brother-in-law Dick and Arlene Jepson; sister-in-law JoAnne Roberts; and sister-in-law Bonnie and Merv Hansen.
