Tom was born on May 15, 1947, at Loup City, the son of Delphie and Delphine (Lubash) Mrkvicka. He grew up on the family farm northeast of Ashton and attended country school in the Paplin area. He later moved with his family to a farm southwest of Farwell and attended St. Anthony's parochial school and graduated from Farwell High School in 1965. He then served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged to return to the farm after the death of his father. He was united in marriage to Rosemarie T. Hurt on Nov. 28, 1970, at St. Josaphat's Catholic Church in Loup City. The couple farmed west of Farwell their entire married life. They moved into St. Paul in Feb. 2015. Rose passed away on Sept. 7, 2015, and Tom continued to live in St. Paul the rest of his life. Tom enjoyed raising cattle and attending cattle sales at the Loup City Sale Barn where he was buyer number 6. He religiously attended morning coffee with the Farwell coffee crew and enjoyed selling feed and custom haying. He dearly loved his grandchildren and attending their many school activities. He was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Carl Mogensen American Legion Post 119 of St. Paul and the Farwell Fire Department and QRT's of which he was an active member until his death. He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Marty and Jeana Mrkvicka and Monty and Nancy Mrkvicka, all of Farwell; six grandchildren, Quinton, Brittany, Riley, Thomas, Tanner and Mikayla Mrkvicka; two brothers and sisters-in-law, David and Jody Mrkvicka of St. Paul and Carl and Lori Mrkvicka of Farwell; sister-in-law and husband, Carolyn and Dennis Kresha of Columbus; brothers-in-law and wives, Michael and Rosalie Hurt of Seward and Alfred and Janice Hurt of Loup City. In addition to his wife, Rose, he was preceded in death by his parents; son, Delphie Mrkvicka; and in-laws, Arnold and Marguerite Hurt. Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
