Steve E. Eurek

Steven E. “Steve” Eurek, 89, of Loup City, died Saturday, Oct. 20, 2012, at Rose Lane Home in Loup City. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Josaphat's Catholic Church in Loup City. The Revs. Marty L. Egging and Alexander J. Borzych will officiate. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Loup City. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the church, with a 6 p.m. vigil service and Knights of Columbus rosary. Peters Funeral Home of Loup City is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Eurek was born on July 8, 1923, on the family farm north of Ashton, the son of John and Mary (Bandur) Eurek. He is survived by his wife, Ernestine Eurek of Loup City; nine children and their spouses, Mary J. and Lambert Krolikowski of Alda, Ronald and Marsha Eurek of Ashton, Timothy and Sharon Eurek of Farwell, Patrick and Loraine Eurek of San Antonio, TX, Terry and Denise Eurek of Omaha, Paul and Deb Eurek of Loup City, Linda and Mike Zeleski of Plano, TX, Christine Eurek of Lincoln, and David Eurek of Lincoln. He is also survived by 21 grandchildren and step-grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; and three sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law, Marie Eurek of Loup City, Margaret and Richard McLain of O'Neill, and Rose Smolla of Blair. Steve attended St. Francis parochial school in Ashton and graduated from Loup City High School in 1940. He then taught school in rural Sherman County for several years. He later worked at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio in airplane repairs. He returned to the Ashton area to farm and was united in marriage to Ernestine P. Smolla on Jan. 29, 1946, at Rockville. The couple lived and farmed north of Ashton and he also worked part-time for the ASCS office in Loup City. They retired from the farm in the Fall of 1998 and moved into Loup City. He moved to the Rose Lane Home in July 2012, where he lived the rest of his life. He was a member of St. Josaphat's Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus Council 5455. Steve enjoyed playing cards, baseball, softball and golfing, as well as, hunting, fishing and following all sports. He dearly loved all his grandkids and great-grandkids. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Mike Eurek; and six sisters, Agnes Eurek, Josephine Eurek, Catherine Eurek, Rose Eurek, Anna Shotkoski and Barbara Marvel. Memorials are suggested to the Loup City EMT's or to the donor's choice.
