Shirley R. Wolsleben

Shirley R. Wolsleben, 79, of Bellevue, formerly of St. Libory and Grand Island, died Sunday, Nov. 30, 2014, at the Huntington Park Care Center in Papillion. Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Peters Funeral Home in St. Paul. Her family members will officiate. Inurnment will be in the Elmwood Cemetery in St. Paul. Mrs. Wolsleben was born on Dec. 7, 1934, at Sargent, the daughter of Lysle B. and Guyneth E. (Scott) Orvis. She is survived by a daughter, Julie Younger of Bellevue; a son, Tim Wolsleben of Steinauer; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Karen and Larry Milliken of Colorado Springs, CO and Pam and Bill Morse of Seward; and one brother and sister-in-law, Rick and Millie Orvis of Ainsworth. She also leaves to cherish her memory, 10 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. As a young child, Shirley moved to Kearney, where she attended Kearney Public Schools and later moved to Broken Bow, where she graduated from Broken Bow High School in 1953. She attended Kearney State College from 1953 to 1955 and then taught at a country school near Sargent. She was united in marriage to Emil “Gene” Wolsleben on Aug. 12, 1956, at Broken Bow. The couple first lived in Sargent where she worked at grocery stores and the housing authority. Also while living in Sargent she taught swimming lessons for 9 years. In July 1971, the couple moved to St. Libory. She then worked in St. Paul at Leth's IGA, Everetts's Package Liquor Store and for the Howard County Welfare Office. She retired in Dec. 1996 and she and Gene continued to live in St. Libory. Gene died on May 17, 2001 and she later enjoyed living at St. Francis Villas in Grand Island and in Aug. 2005 she moved to Chrysalis also in Grand Island. In Nov. 2013 she moved to Heritage Ridge Assisted Living in Bellevue, to be near her family. Shirley was a member of VFW Auxilary 1347 of Grand Island and was a AFSCME Retiree. She enjoyed painting, sketching, photography, reading and traveling. In addition to her husband, Gene, she was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Greg Wolsleben. Memorials are suggested to Hillcrest Hospice of Bellevue.
