Nola C. Duryea, 77, of Broken Bow, died Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2012, at the Heritage Living Center in St. Paul. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church in Broken Bow. The Rev. Todd Karges will officiate. Burial will be in the Broken Bow Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour before time of services at the church. Peters Funeral Home of St. Paul is in charge of the arrangements. Mrs. Duryea was born on Dec. 13, 1934, at Broken Bow, the youngest of seven children, to Charles and Nelle (Pinkley) Carland. She is survived by two sons and one daughter-in-law, Mark and Julie Duryea of Grand Island and Bryan Scott Duryea of Ravenna; one daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Daniel Spanel of Broken Bow. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Nola her lived her entire life in Broken Bow, where she received her education and graduated from Broken Bow High School in 1953. She was united in marriage to Duaine A. Duryea on Oct. 10, 1954 at the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Broken Bow. The couple lived in Broken Bow where Duaine was a banker and co-owner of Security State Bank. Nola worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company for a number of years and later worked for J.C. Penney Co. She was very involved in the community through Cub Scouts, Brownies, 4-H clubs, Mrs. Jaycees, and taught Sunday School and Bible School. She was a member of the United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Duaine in 2007; a granddaughter, Toshiah Duryea; one brother, Merlin Carland; and sisters, Marion Haumont, Katherine Christensen, Virginia Carland, Margaret Carland and infant sister, Ruth Carland; and two brothers-in-law, Henry Haumont and Clifford Christensen. Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
