Mark P. Nielsen, 56, of St. Paul, died unexpectedly, Tuesday, April 17, 2012, at the Howard County Medical Center in St. Paul. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church in St. Paul. The Rev. Randall L. Dilts will officiate. There will be no public visitation. Mr. Nielsen's body is being cremated. Peters Funeral Home of St. Paul is in charge of arrangements. Mark was born on March 17, 1956, in Grand Island, the son of Alan and Joan (Thornton) Nielsen. He was united in marriage to Donna M. Cyboron on June 12, 1976, in Rockville. He is survived by his wife, Donna M. Nielsen of St. Paul; son and daughter-in-law, Marcus and Tami Nielsen of St. Paul; two daughters and one son-in-law, Timmery and Joe Parr of Fairfield and Hillary Nielsen of St. Paul; his father, Alan Nielsen of Boelus; two brothers, Alan Ray Nielsen and his wife,Shelly of Grand Island and Paul Nielsen and his wife,Vickie of St. Paul; three sisters, Sarah “Sally” Sazama and Dave Andrews of Shelton, Connie Steele and her husband, Willie of Greeley and Toni Bentz and her husband, Paul of St. Paul. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Austin and Lauryn Schuller, Tayler and Bentley Nielsen and Emma Parr; his mother-in-law, Henrietta Cyboron of Boelus; and Donna's siblings and spouses, Gordon Cyboron of Ravenna, Dennis Cyboron of Boelus, Dan and Kim Cyboron of Ravenna, Glenda Cyboron of Grand Island, Gladys and Clint Covey of Lakeville, MN and Dorothy and Doran Moss of Cairo. Mark grew up in Boelus where he attended Boelus Public School and graduated from Centura High School in 1974. He then attended Hastings College where he participated in football and track and field. After he and Donna married they lived in Boelus where he worked in construction. In 1984, the family moved to St. Paul where he continued in his construction business, “Nielsen Nailers”. He built numerous homes and businesses in the area, including: Super 8 Motel, Subway, Classy Chassy, Pro Lube & Car Wash, USDA Service Center and Parkside North Apartments. Over the years Mark played in various local bands including, “Wizard”, “Workin Knights” and “Larry and the Lightening Bolts”. They mainly played in Central Nebraska, but once went on a tour of Canada. He was still involved in his construction business and he and Donna also currently owned and operated Bel Air Motel and The Cage Bar & Grill in St. Paul. Mark loved his family, his dog 'Carly”, guitars and making music. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Joan Nielsen; and his father-in-law, Raymond Cyboron. In lieu of flowers and plants, memorials are suggested to the family’s choice.
