Marjorie A. Arterburn

Marjorie Alice Arterburn, 93, of St. Paul, died Saturday, May 25, 2019, at Brookefield Park in St. Paul. Memorial graveside services will be held at a later date in the Elmwood Cemetery in St. Paul. Marjorie was born on November 21, 1925, and spent her early years in Dannebrog, before relocating with her family to St. Paul. She was the daughter of Ainer Nielsen and Metha Pedersen Nielsen. Marjorie attended St. Paul High School where she met and later married Paul Arterburn. They were married for over 70 years and were separated only by Paul's death in 2016. She was a lifelong homemaker who loved to cook and especially to take care of her family. Marjorie was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in St. Paul. She was the oldest surviving member of the American Legion Auxiliary in St. Paul. Marjorie was also a member of the Masonic Eastern Star, Andrew Chapter No. 41 OES, of which she was a 50 year member. She was also active in PEO (Philanthropic Educational Organization). She was a passionate collector of antiques and collectibles of all types. Marjorie loved to travel. Following Paul's retirement from St. Paul National Bank, they visited more than 70 countries spread across every continent. She is survived by her sons, Butch, of St. Paul and James, and his wife Susan, of Lafayette, Louisiana; her grandchildren include Butch's son, Patrick, and Jim and Susan's children, Abigail of Beijing, China, Michael of Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Tanner Sargent of Lafayette, Louisiana. In addition to her loving husband, Paul, Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents and her only sibling, Harvey Nielsen. Peters Funeral Home of St. Paul is assisting the family.
