Marian R. MacFarlane, 85, of Loup City, died Thursday, March 15, 2018, at CHI Health Saint Francis in Grand Island. Marian chose to be cremated with no services. Private inurnment will be in Washington. Peters Funeral Home is assisting the family. Marian was born on March 13, 1933, on a farm north of Loup City, the daughter of Steve. E. and Margaret R. (Lewandowski) Kowalski. She grew up on the family farm and attended Sherman County rural schools and graduated from Loup City High School in 1951. She then moved to Hastings where she worked as a telephone operator for Lincoln Telephone & Telegraph. She later moved to Washington, where she also worked as a telephone operator. She was married to Lloyd R. MacFarlane in Oct 1987 at Snohomish, Washington. He preceded her in death in May 1988. In 1992, she returned to Nebraska, moving to Ashton. She operated the Fredrick Hotel in Loup City from 1995 to 1998. She later moved into Loup City, where she lived the rest of her life. She was a member of St. Josaphat's Catholic Church and the Council of Catholic Women. She is survived by one son, David Snyder of Plattsmouth; one daughter, Janelle Bennett of Charleston, South Carolina; six grandchildren; two brothers and two sisters-in-law, Lillian Kowalski of Kearney, Melvin Kowalski of Randlett, OK, and Ken and Jean Kowalski of Loup City; and one sister, Betty Kowalski of Loup City. In addition to her husband, Lloyd, she was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Steve Snyder; and four brothers, Don, Larry, Richard and Robert Kowalski. Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
