Louise L. Lonowski

July 15, 1925 — December 19, 2007

COLUMBUS – Louise L. Lonowski, 82, of Columbus died Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2007, at the Columbus Community Hospital. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Josaphat’s Catholic Church in Loup City. The Rev. Marty Egging will officiate. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Loup City. Visitation will be Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the church, with a 7 p.m. vigil service. Peters Funeral Home of Loup City is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Lonowski was born on July 15, 1925, at Ashton, the daughter of Louie and Hattie (Grabowski) Waskowiak. She was preceded in death by her husband, Delphie “Del” Lonowski on Nov. 26, 1985. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Delmer and Mary Lonowski of Brookings, SD and Allen and Beth Lonowski of Scottsbluff; three daughters and sons-in-law, Adene and Larry Maronde of York, Joyce and Tom Jacobsen of Colorado Springs, CO and Beth and Michael Jones of Columbus; three brothers, Ralph Waskowiak of Lubbock, TX, Carl West of Altoona, IA and Fred Waskowiak of Mesilla Park, NM; and one sister and one brother-in-law, Alice Seley of Lafayette, IN and Richard Ryan of Green Bay, Wisc. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Louise grew up in Sherman County and graduated from Loup City High School in 1943. She then was a rural school teacher. She was united in marriage to Delphie “Del” Lonowski on Sept. 11, 1944, at Loup City. The couple first lived on a farm for three years and later moved into Loup City, where their children, Delmer, Allen, Adene, Joyce and Beth were born. Louise was in the service station business with her husband from 1953 until 1985. They owned stations in Broken Bow, Ord and Loup City, while they lived in Loup City and Broken Bow. After Del’s death she lived in Broken Bow and later moved to Loup City where she lived for several years, until moving to Grand Island. In June 1999, she moved to Columbus, where she lived the rest of her life. She was a former Girl and Boy Scout leader, 4-H leader and did all the family sewing. She was very active in the Catholic Church of each community she resided in. She taught CCC and was the Director of Religious Education in Broken Bow. She served as president of the St. Josaphat’s Council of Catholic Women and president of St. Joseph’s Deanery. She was a charter member of Catholic Daughters of America Court of the Lady of the Plains in Broken Bow and served as Regent and District Deputy. She also served as a lector and Eucharistic minister in each parish. While living in Grand Island she attended St. Mary’s Cathedral and volunteered at ST. Francis Medical Center. She was a current member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Columbus. She enjoyed sewing, quilting and meeting people. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one granddaughter, Christy Lonowski; one brother, Albin “Al” Waskowiak; and one sister, Elaine Ryan. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to St. Josaphat’s Catholic Church, Sherman County Historical Society or the Polish Heritage Center.
