Lois M. Kuligowski

Lois M. Kuligowski, 82, of Loup City, died Friday, July 2, 2010, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Josaphat’s Catholic Church in Loup City. The Rev. Marty L. Egging will officiate. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Loup City. Visitation will be Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the church, with a 7 p.m. vigil service. Peters Funeral Home of Loup City is in charge of the arrangements. Mrs. Kuligowski was born on Dec. 4, 1927, at Loup City, the daughter of William and Myrtle (Rogers) Schnase. She was united in marriage to Tony M. Kuligowski on July 11, 1946, at Smith Center, Kansas. He preceded her in death on Aug. 14, 2009. She is survived by four daughters and three son-in-laws, Mary and Dan Cranny of Omaha, Betty and Ron Czaplewski of Loup City, Carol Wilson of Loup City, and Diane and Russell Panowicz of Ravenna; four sons and daughters-in-law, Edward and Kathy Kuligowski of Elgin, TX, Steve and Arlene Kuligowski and John and Theresa Kuligowski all of Lincoln, and Jim and Blanca Kuligowski of Austin, TX; three sisters and three brothers-in-law, Juanita Szafrajda of Gibbon, Winona and Ronald Piontkowski of Loup City, Leona and Richard Kluna of Grand Island and Emil Kuligowski of Loup City; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Grant and Marj Schnase of Ansley, Bill and Mary Jane Schnase of Denton, and Carl and Clare Schnase of Sparks, NV. She also leaves to cherish her memory, 21 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Lois attended Sherman County rural schools and graduated from Loup City High School in 1945. She then taught in country schools in the Loup City area for awhile. The couple first lived in Lincoln and later returned to a farm near Arcadia. In 1964, they moved into Loup City where they later owned and operated the Snack Shop Bakery for a number of years. They retired in 1987 and she continued to help her daughter and son-in-law at the Snack Shop for several more years. She was a member of St. Josaphat’s Catholic Church. Lois enjoyed gardening, baking, crocheting, sewing, cooking and sharing her recipes and she loved her grandkids with all her heart. In addition to her husband, Tony, she was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Myrtle Kuligowski and Doris Cleland; and one brother, John Schnase. Memorials are suggested to St. Josaphat’s Catholic Church or to the family’s choice.
