Leona Villora Twehous

Leona Villora Twehous, 81, of North Mankato, Minnesota, formerly of St. Paul, NE, died Thursday, Sept. 30, 2010, at Immanuel St. Josephs Hospital in Mankato, after an extended illness. Leona chose to have her body cremated. Her husband Virgil is experiencing some health problems at this time. Therefore a memorial service is being planned for a later date with inurnment in Elmwood Cemetery in St. Paul. Peters Funeral Home of St. Paul is assisting the family with arrangements. Leona was born on Nov. 27, 1928, at Howells, NE, the first child of Joseph and Emma (Marik) Uhing. She was united in marriage to Virgil Twehous on Nov. 3, 1948, at Snyder, NE. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Mary Eckhardt and Michelle Wroblewski. She is survived by her loving husband, Virgil of North Mankato, MN; two sons and daughters-in-law, Daniel and Tana Twehous of Wheatridge, CO and Keith and Debra Twehous of Montrose, CO; one daughter and three sons-in-law, Jacqueline and Richard Mulligan of North Mankato, MN, Roger Eckhardt of Hastings and Ernie Wroblewski of Kearney; one brother Norman and Ann Uhing of Omaha. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Leona and Virgil spent 48 years living in St. Paul. After spending most of their married life in Nebraska, the couple moved to Minnesota to be near their daughter Jackie and her family in July 2009. Besides raising her active family, Leona spent her days baking and decorating cakes for special occasions in the St. Paul area before she retired. Family member and friends will always treasure the beautiful quilts she lovingly made for them. Leona loved getting her whole family together to share stories, laughter and delicious food. She enjoyed baking, quilting, playing cards with her family, fishing and boating at Sherman Dam, and raising gorgeous flowers. Guests never came to her home when there wasn’t a fresh pot of coffee and baked goods to enjoy. Leona will be greatly missed by those close to her. She was a treasured wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She was a longtime member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and its Council of Catholic Women in St. Paul In addition to her two daughters, she was preceded in death by her parents.
