June 24, 1969 — August 30, 2014

James D. “Jim” Heaps, 45, of St. Paul, died Saturday, Aug. 30, 2014, at CHI Health Good Samaritan in Kearney. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in St. Paul. The Revs. Martha Voigt and Ray Kosmicki will officiate. Burial will be in the Elmwood Cemetery in St. Paul. The family requests casual Husker and NASCAR attire for his funeral. Visitation will be Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the church. Peters Funeral Home of St. Paul is in charge of the arrangements. Mr. Heaps was born on June 24, 1969, in Grand Island, the son of Larry D. and Marlene Y. (Rutten) Heaps. He was united in marriage to Terrie E. (Anderson) Matlock on June 15, 2000, at Greeley. He is survived by his wife, Terrie Heaps of St. Paul; one son and daughter-in-law, Brandon and Mindy Matlock of St. Paul; one daughter, Kaylene "Sis" Matlock of St. Paul; and one sister, Michelle Perry of Grand Island. He also leaves to cherish his memory, two beloved granddaughters, Natalia and Paislie Matlock of St. Paul; in-laws, Don and Mary Anderson of St. Paul; one sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Julie Haller and Loren Haller of Fruita, CO; three brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law, Donnie and Norma Anderson of Lincoln, Larry Anderson of Fullerton, and Gary and Heather Anderson of Loup City; and two very special uncles and aunts, Don and Lucky Heaps of Lincoln and Charlie “Dick” and Marge Heaps of Tennessee; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. As a young child, Jim lived with his parents in Broken Bow. At the age of 4, he moved with his family to Wood River where he received his education and graduated from Wood River High School in 1988. He and Terrie lived in Wolbach for many years until moving to St. Paul in May 2013. As a young man he had worked for numerous farmers in the Wood River area and for Happ Opp Construction in Wood River for several years. In 1993, he began working for Case New Holland in Grand Island, where he was currently an assembly team leader. He had worked every Fall during harvest for Bill Dugan of Greeley and had also worked for Nelson Processing in Wolbach. Jim enjoyed fishing, NASCAR, Husker football, yardwork, shooting pool, throwing darts and going to dirt track car races with his two uncles. He loved spending time with his two granddaughters and his family. He was preceded in death by his parents; and grandparents, Maurice and Donnetta Rutten and Donald and Lillie Heaps. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be given to the family's choice.
