Harlan J. Pelc

Harlan J. Pelc, 73, of St. Paul, died Sunday, Aug. 31, 2014, at the Kearney Regional Medical Center in Kearney. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Grace Baptist Church in St. Paul. Pastor Stan Gurney will officiate. Burial will be in the Elmwood Cemetery in St. Paul. Visitation will be Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Peters Funeral Home in St. Paul. Mr. Pelc was born on Sept. 12, 1940, at Lynch, Nebraska, the son of John and Hilda (Holmberg) Pelc. He was united in marriage to Leah M. “Susie” Thompson on June 27, 1964, at Buena Vista, Colorado. He is survived by his wife, Susie of St. Paul; two sons and daughters-in-law, John and Kristin Pelc and Kenneth and Dorothy Pelc, all of St. Paul; one daughter and son-in-law, Marci and Brian Jordan of Burwell; one brother and sister-in-law, Arnold and Jean Pelc of Spencer; and three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Nola Miller of Cushing, Delores Nelson of Gregory, SD, Doris and Dave Kocian of Butte and Roger Roth of Spencer. He also leaves to cherish his memory, 9 grandchildren, Tim Jordan, Bill Jordan, Haylee Jordan, Scott Jordan, DezeRay Pelc, Morgan Pelc, Lukas Pelc, Sarah Pelc and Artina Pelc; one great-granddaughter, Braelin Pelc; and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jim and Linda Foreman of Buena Vista, CO. Harlan grew up on a farm near Butte and attended country schools in that area. As a young man he moved to Buena Vista, Colorado, where he worked in a molybdenum mine. It was there that he met and married Susie. In 1966, the couple moved to O'Neill where he worked for a local farmer, later moving to Spencer where he worked at Spencer Livestock. The family then moved to Butte where the couple milked cows and did custom haying. In 1980, the family moved to Worms,and he worked for Greenline Equipment in Grand Island and in 1984 moved to St. Paul where he worked at Christensen Sand & Gravel. In 1995, he began working for Werner Construction and was still employed with them at the time of his death. Harlan enjoyed his grandchildren, being outdoors, yard work, cutting and splitting firewood, polka music, going to dances and dearly loved his dog, Jack. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Thomas William Pelc; sister, Lavern Roth; brothers-in-law, Marvin Miller and Merle Nelson; and a nephew, Daniel Kocian. Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
