Freda B. Barrett

Freda B. Barrett, 92, of Lincoln, formerly of Loup City and Grand Island, died Saturday, Aug. 7, 2010, at The Monarch in Lincoln. Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Gollaher Chapel of Trinity United Methodist Church in Grand Island. The Rev. Melanie Adams will officiate. Inurnment will be in the church columbarium. There will be no visitation. Mrs. Barrett chose to be cremated. Peters Funeral Home of St. Paul is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Barrett was born on Dec. 5, 1917, at Arcadia, the daughter of Emmett and Anna (Thelander) Boblett. She was united in marriage to Edwin L. Barrett on Sept. 19, 1949, at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Grand Island. He preceded her in death on Dec. 12, 2005. She was also preceded in death by her son, Craig Barrett. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Adeline “Cookie” Barrett of Lincoln. She also leaves to cherish her memory, two granddaughters and their spouses, Rory and Steve Thomas of Kansas City, MO and Darcy and Daniel Soltys of Lincoln; and four great-granddaughters, Avery Ann Soltys, Lily Elizabeth Soltys, Charley Adeline Thomas and Coco Mary Thomas. As a young child, Freda moved to Grand Island with her family, where she attended Grand Island public schools and was a 1936 graduate of Grand Island Senior High School. Freda and Edwin lived in Grand Island until 1978, when they moved to Sherman Lake near Loup City. In 1999, they returned to Grand Island where they lived at Riverside Lodge. After Ed’s death in 2005, Freda continued to live at Riverside, until Nov. 2008 when she moved to Windcrest Assisted Living in Lincoln. She was a longtime member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Grand Island, Daughters of the Nile of Hastings, Eastern Star Chapter No. 41 of Grand Island and a past member of the Shriners Auxiliary. In addition to her husband and son, she was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Lorena Freeling. Memorials are suggested to Trinity United Methodist Church in Grand Island.
