Florence M. Fattig

August 4, 1919 — November 12, 2017

Florence Marie (Shotkoski) Fattig, 98, of Manvel, TX, died Sunday, Nov. 12, 2017, at the Pearland Medical Center in Pearland, TX. Memorial services will be at 12 Noon Saturday, Dec. 2, 2017, at St. Josaphat's Catholic Church in Loup City. Reception immediately following in the parish hall. The Rev. Richard L. Piontkowski will officiate. Burial with full military honors will be at 9 a.m. Monday, Dec. 4, at Fort McPherson National Cemetery in Maxwell. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 1, at the church. Peters Funeral Home of Loup City is assisting the family. Matriarch, maverick, mother, (great and grand in so many ways) Florence (Shotkoski) Fattig came into this world in the typical manner, and promptly proceeded to make a most extraordinary life for 98 years. Decorated World War II veteran, fashion designer, expert quilter, artist, decorator, gardener, political pundit, poker champion and nurse of 45 years. Of all her facets, exceptional cook/baker may speak most to whom she was – a nurturer. She opened her kitchen, her home and her heart to many friends and family, preparing sumptuous meals for passing travelers, her quilting group and most favoritely her family. Dinner, as life, would be served with a hearty helping of laughter, political queries and, if summer time, a stroll through her tenderly-kept garden. Religious discussions were not for the table, but she held The Lord and her Catholic beliefs strong. She also loved her home state of Nebraska: green rolling hills, lakes and deep-barked trees. She traveled the world from Disney to Luxemburg, Houston to Saigon, but Nebraska was her heart and that is where she returns to be with her parents, Frank and Vera (Kuta) Shotkoski, eight brothers and sisters and seven in-laws and late husband Ralph Fattig, all now surely enjoying a glass of wine and lively polka. She leaves behind loving memories with her children, Dianne Fattig of Friendswood, TX, Mike Sterling of Friendswood, TX and Mary Lynn Fernau of Pearland, TX, as well as nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Florence, may you continue your amazing journey. Thank you for sharing your light, your wisdom, your grit, your humor, and your love. We will cherish them always. Gifts may be made to your favorite charity in her name.
