Edwin A. Sevcik, 93, of Casper, WY, formerly of St. Paul, died Monday, Sept. 26, 2011, in Casper. Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 21, 2012, at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in St. Paul. The Rev. Ray Kosmicki will officiate. Inurnment will be in the Elmwood Cemetery in St. Paul, with graveside military honors by Carl Mogensen American Legion Post 119 of St. Paul. Peters Funeral Home of St. Paul is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Sevcik was born on April 16, 1918, near St. Paul, the son of John S. and Mary K. (Fisher) Sevcik. He was the youngest of five children. He was united in marriage to “Dycke” Lorraine Miller on Oct. 9, 1948, at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in St. Paul. He is survived by his wife, Dycke of Casper; one son and daughter-in-law, Charles J. “Chuck” and Rita A. Sevcik of Anchorage, AK; two daughters and one son-in-law, Deborah L. Sevcik of Colorado Springs, CO and Laura M. and Mark F. Smith of Prescott, AZ. He s also survived by grandchildren, Cameron Jo and Derek J. Sevcik of Anchorage, AK and Abel J. “A.J.” Smith of Prescott, AZ; and one great-grandson, Kane Sevcik; and special family friend, James D. Kelly of Casper, WY. In May 1942 he graduated from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln with a bachelors degree in Agronomy. During World War II he served in the U.S. Air Force as a Aerial Gunnery Instructor from Nov. 9, 1942, until he was honorably discharged at Drew Field, Tampa, FL on Jan. 9, 1946. He was employed by the U.S. Department of Interior, Bureau of Reclamation for 30 years, as a Soil Scientist, later as a Natural Resource Specialist. He was involved in the development of Irrigation Districts in Howard County, Ainsworth Irrigation District and with the Irrigation Districts in western Nebraska and eastern Wyoming. He worked out of Grand Island, NE 1946-1955, O'Neill, NE 1955-1957, Ainsworth, NE 1957-1967 and Casper, WY 1967-1976. He retired from the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation on Dec. 17, 1976. After retirement he sold real estate for Century 21 of Casper from 1976 to 1981. Since World War II he managed family farms in Howard County, NE for his mother, sister and brothers. He was a member of Carl Mogensen American Legion Post 119 of St. Paul for 56 years, life member of Elks Casper Lodge No. 1353 and life member of Knights of Columbus Council No. 1563 of Casper. He enjoyed sports, especially University of Nebraska FOOTBALL! He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Blanche Sevcik; and three brothers, Henry, Clem and Stephen Sevcik. Memorials are suggested to the donor's choice.
