Donald J Kaminski, 86, of Loup City, died Saturday Oct. 10th at Saint Francis Medical Center in Grand Island. Services will be at 10:30 am Wednesday at St. Josaphat’s Catholic Church in Loup City. The Rev. Marty L. Egging will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Loup city. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 pm Tuesday at the church with a 7 p.m. vigil service and Knights of Columbus rosary. Peters Funeral Home of Loup City is in charge of arrangements. Don Kaminski was born December 1, 1922 on a farm outside of Litchfield, NE to Walter and Kathryn (Augustyn) Kaminski. He was preceded in death by son Raymond Kaminski. Survivors of the immediate family include his wife of 61 years, Virginia Kaminski; 6 children and spouses, Tom & Sue Kaminski of Loup City, Patricia & Richard Katz of Nevada City, CA, Marj & Jerry Dyvig of Edmond, OK, Judy and Dave Urbanski of Kearney, Jean and Randy Kathman of Doniphan, and Mike and Becky Kaminski of Broken Bow; one sister, Loretta Bonczynski of Grand Island; and one brother and sister-in-law, Andrew and Patsy Kaminski of Aurora, CO. Don is also survived by sixteen grandchildren; Chelsea Shuda of Farwell, Casey Kaminski of Kansas City, MO, Carmen Wilson of Grand Island, Adam Kaminski of Grand Island, Andrea Kaminski of Lincoln, Adrian Kaminski of St. Libory, Cory Dyvig of Edmond, OK, Nikki Dyvig of Austin, TX, Megan Kathman of Omaha, Traci Kathman of Lincoln, Christy Kathman of Kearney, Dayna Kathman of Doniphan, Jacque Urbanski, of Kearney, Aaron Urbanski of Kearney, Sarah Kaminski of Lincoln, and James Kaminski of Broken Bow; and nine great- grandchildren, Quinton, Tanner, Colby, Sadie, Kylie, Kassidy, Ashlyn, Hailey, and Payton. Don grew up on a farm in the Loup City area and attended Sherman County rural and parochial schools. He graduated from Loup City High School in 1939 at the age of 16. Following graduation he farmed in the Loup City area. He was united in marriage to Virginia Jarosz on November 22, 1947 at St. Josaphat’s Catholic Church in Loup City. Don and Virginia farmed near Loup City for 6 years, until 1954, when they moved to Custer County, west of Arcadia. They lived there for 3 years. In 1957, the couple moved back to the Loup City area where they farmed for an additional 35 years. He worked as an auctioneer for many years and adjusted crops after retirement. He was an avid sports fan, announcing at baseball games. Don was also a spotter for football games for many years, for which he received the Red Raiders Appreciation Award. Throughout his life, Don enjoyed traveling to many countries with Virginia and loved spending time with his grandchildren. Don and Virginia also belonged to a couple’s card club for over 30 years. Don had many friends with whom he “coffeed” and played cards with daily. Don was a member of St. Josaphat’s Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council No. 5455 and 4th Degree Knights of Columbus Assembly No. 1712, all of Loup City. In addition to his son, he was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Leonard Kaminski; and an infant sister, LeAnn Kaminski. Memorials are suggested to St Josaphat’s Catholic Church or donor’s choice.
