Carl was born on Feb. 5, 1926, at Ashton, the son of Michael and Bernice (Dzingle) Krolikowski. He grew up on the family farm and attended Sherman County rural schools. He graduated from Loup City High School in 1944, where he was an all-around athlete. Having served from May 26, 1944 until his honorable discharge on Feb. 17, 1946. He was proud to have been able to go to Washington DC on the Honor Flight in 2011. After his discharge from the U.S. Navy he returned to Loup City where he began working for Ray Pinkney at Ray's Market. He was united in marriage to Geri (Kwiatkowski) John on Aug. 8, 1964, at St. Josaphat's Catholic Church in Loup City. The couple raised their family and lived their entire married life in Loup City. In 1965, they purchased Ray's Market, which they owned and operated until Oct. 1994, when they sold the store and Carl retired. In 1996, he began assisting with visitations and funerals for Peters Funeral Home in Loup City and St. Paul. In 2016, at the age of 90 years old, he decided it was time to retire for good. He was a member of St. Josaphat's Catholic Church where he served on the Parish Council numerous times, was a longtime Eucharistic Minister and whenever he saw something needed to be done around the church, parish hall or church grounds he would take care of it. He enjoyed men's golf league night and playing golf on area courses with his friends. He was blessed to have had a hole-in-one in Loup City, as well as, at a course in Scottsdale, Arizona. He also loved following and watching his grandsons sports events in Omaha and Loup City. He loved Husker football, as he and Geri, were season ticket holders for over 35 years. Hours before he passed away he was able to watch the Huskers win their first game of the season with his family. Carl was a very kind, humble and compassionate man that will be dearly missed by his family, friends and the Loup City community, all of which he truly loved.
