Anton G. Kowalski

Anton G. Kowalski, 66, of St. Paul, died Friday, August 3, 2012, at his home. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in St. Paul. The Rev. Ray Kosmicki will officiate. Burial will be in the Elmwood Cemetery in St. Paul. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the church, with a 7 p.m. vigil service. Peters Funeral Home of St. Paul is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Kowalski was born on Sept. 24, 1945, at St. Paul, the son of Gregory and Monica (Augustyn) Kowalski. He was united in marriage to Sue Ellen Sholes on Dec. 2, 1967, at Grand Island. She preceded him in death on Jan. 13, 2004. He is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Jackie Kowalski of Central City, Scott and Katie Kowalski of St. Paul and Tony and Shela Kowalski of Omaha; and two daughters and one son-in-law, Annie Kowalski and Mike Pittman of St. Paul and Amy and James Dinsdale of Alamogordo, New Mexico; one brother and sister-in-law, Lawrence and Loretta Kowalski of St. Paul; and one brother-in-law, Don Knapp of St. Paul. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, Dustin Dierberger, Gregory Kowalski, Alyssa Kowalski, Amber Coplen, Michael Kowalski, Nathan Kowalski, Jonah Dinsdale, Kristin Kowalski, Trevor Kowalski and Kyle Kowalski. Anton attended District No. 46 Howard County rural school and Dannebrog High School. He then farmed with his father. After his marriage, the couple first lived in St. Paul where he worked for Reuben Meyer as a farmhand. He later worked for Bernard Lau Feedlot in Kearney for several years. The family moved to the Elba and Cotesfield area and he worked for Spilinek Fertilizer in Elba. In 1984, they returned to St. Paul where he began working for the State Department of Roads. He retired in 2009, as a Highway Supervisor. Anton was a member of St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus Council No. 1918 of St. Paul. He enjoyed going to garage sales and auctions. In addition to his wife, Sue Ellen, he was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Evelyn Knapp; and two brothers, Alozy and Paul Kowalski. Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
