Anna R. Curlo, 91, of Ashton, died Monday, Dec. 26, 2011, at the St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island. Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday at the St. Francis Catholic Church in Ashton. The Rev. Marty L. Egging will officiate. Burial will be in the St. Francis Catholic Cemetery in Ashton. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the church, with a 7 p.m. vigil service. Peters Funeral Home of Loup City is in charge of the arrangements. Mrs. Curlo was born on March 23, 1920, near Rockville, the daughter of Andrew and Marie (Rasmussen) Bonczynski. She was preceded in death by her husband, Peter A. Curlo on May 2, 2009. She is survived by three daughters and one son-in-law, Mary Ann Sokol of Rockville and her special friend, Ray Cich of Ithaca, Elaine Barnier and Harold Grotte of Ramsey, MN and Jeanette “Jan” Moe and her husband, Sid Moe of Grand Island; two sisters, Rose Smolla of Blair and Gladys Curlo of Ravenna; and one brother and sister-in-law, Alvin and Betty Bonczynski of Rockville. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren, Allan Sokol, Mark and Jennifer Sokol, Carl and Allison Sokol, Melissa and Russell Knight, Roland and Brenda Sokol, Gary and Lisa Barnier, Damin and Tammy Barnier, Brian Flebbe, and Shawn and Kelly Flebbe; and 15 great-grandchildren. Anna grew up on a farm near Rockville and attended District No. 12 country school and later Rockville High School. She was united in marriage to Peter A. “Pete” Curlo on April 27, 1937, at Farwell. The couple farmed near Rockville for 20 years. In May 1957, they purchased the tavern in Ashton from Leonard Jamrog and together they ran “Pete's Bar” until 1973. The couple enjoyed their retirement years in Ashton. After Pete's death, Anna continued to live in her home the rest of her life. She was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church and its Council of Catholic Woman. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, gardening and crafts. She loved to go to auctions and helping in her daughter, Mary Ann's lunch wagon. Anna also loved her family and doted on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Pete, she was preceded in death by her parents; two sons-in-law, Paul Sokol and Gary Barnier; and one grandson, Keith Sokol. Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
