Alvin R. Jarzynka

Alvin R. Jarzynka, 84, of Loup City formerly of Ashton, died Monday, Dec. 22, 2008, at the Rose Lane Home in Loup City. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the St. Francis Catholic Church in Ashton. The Rev. Marty Egging will officiate. Burial will be in the St. Francis Catholic Cemetery in Ashton. Graveside military honors will be provided by American Legion Post 108 of Ashton. Visitation will be Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the church, with a 7 p.m. vigil service. Peters Funeral Home of Loup City is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Jarzynka was born on March 31, 1924, on the family farm southwest of Ashton, the son of Peter E. and Philomena (Smedra) Jarzynka. He is survived by his wife, Rose Jarzynka of Loup City; two daughters and sons-in-law, Joyce and Craig Kamler and Deb and Lonnie Mitteis, all of Ashton; three sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Susan Jarzynka of Loup City, Gary and Rosario Jarzynka and Dan and Tammy Jarzynka, all of Lincoln; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Virgil and Dorothy Jarzynka of Omaha, Don and Mary Jarzynka and Tom and Donna Jarzynka, all of Grand Island; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Isabel and Leo Szatko of Clarks, Alice Ann and Don Lonowski of Grand Island, Geraldine and Dennis Rewolinski and Lois and Joel Reynolds, all of Omaha; one sister-in-law, Arlene and Paul Janulewicz of Loup City; and one brother-in-law, Leonard and Mary Mostek of St. Paul. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, Jonathan Kamler of Laurel, MD, Jessica Kamler of Broken Bow, Aaron Jarzynka of Lincoln, Judd Jarzynka and Matthew Jarzynka, both of Loup City, Maggie Mitteis of Lincoln, Jody Mitteis of Ashton, Brooke Havlat of Lincoln and Makenna Jarzynka of Lincoln. Alvin grew up on the family farm and attended District No. 26 rural school, St. Francis parochial school and was a 1942 graduate of Ashton High School. After graduating from high school he continued to farm with his father and also worked for other local farmers thrashing and picking corn by hand. He served in the United States Army during World War II from Jan. 1946 to March 1947. Upon his discharge from the military he returned to the Ashton area to farm. He was united in marriage to Rose M. Dymek on June 13, 1949, at Ashton. The couple made their home and farmed southwest of Ashton until Jan. 2007 when they moved to Rose Lane Home Assisted Living Center due to the ice storm that caused power outages for several weeks. He was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church where he was involved in church activities such as being an usher and helping with bingo. He also served on the Ashton Rural Fire Board and the Ashton Township Board. He enjoyed polka music, going for drives in the country and sharing stories of old times. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Anzel Jarzynka; and two sisters, Deloris Jarzynka and Elaine Mostek. Memorials are suggested to the Ashton Fire & Rescue.
