Adolph A. Bonczynski

June 21, 1926 — March 28, 2008

Adolph A. Bonczynski, 81, of Grand Island died Friday, March 28, 2008, at the Nebraska Veterans Home in Grand Island. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Josaphat’s Catholic Church in Loup City. The Rev. Thomas Mullowney will officiate. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Loup City with graveside military by American Legion Post 108 of Ashton. Visitation will be Monday at the church from 6 to 8 p.m. with a 7 p.m. vigil service. Peters Funeral Home of Loup City is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Bonczynski was born on June 21, 1926, at Ashton, the son of John and Joanna (Siwinski) Bonczynski. He is survived by his wife, Loretta of Grand Island; three sons and one daughter-in-law, Larry Bonczynski and Randy Bonczynski, both of Columbus and Rick and Kim Bonczynski of Golden, CO; two daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Tom Van Winkle of Wood River and Marlene and Duane Wood of Flower Mound, TX; four step-sons and step- daughters-in-law, Larry and Billie Klimek of Grand Island, Loren and Dar Klimek of Idaho Springs, CO, Mike and Karleen Klimek of Grand Island and John and Nancy Klimek of Omaha; five step-daughters and four step-sons-in-law, Kathy and Dave Chohon of Tucson, AZ, Barbara Klimek of Brady, Michelle and Mike Grudzinski of Maryville, MO, Denise and Robin Bochart of Rockville and Laurie and Dr. Craig Dethlefs of North Platte; and two sisters and one brother-in-law, Joan Wysocki of Farwell and Lorraine and Richard Ignowski of Berwyn, IL. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 26 step-grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and 19 step-great-grandchildren. Adolph grew up on a farm northeast of Ashton and attended St. Francis parochial school. He served in the United States Army during World War II from Nov. 1945 to July 1947, serving with the Air Transport Command. He then returned to the Ashton area where he farmed. He was united in marriage to Angeline Czaplewski on June 2, 1948, at Loup City.To this union five children were born, Larry, Randy, Rick, Judy and Marlene. The couple farmed near Ashton and he also owned Bonczynski Gravel. He was united in marriage to Loretta (Kaminski) Klimek on Jan. 14, 1984, at Loup City. They first lived in Loup City and moved to Seward in 1985, where he worked for Seward area farmers. In the fall of 2007, the couple moved to Grand Island. He was a member of St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church in Seward and Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Grand Island. He was a member of American Legion Post 108 of Ashton and had served on the Ashton school and township boards. He was also a long standing member of the Farm Bureau. He enjoyed polka music, playing cards and attending tractor pulls, air shows and car races. He was preceded in death by his parents; one step-grandson, Joshua Chohon; one brother, Ray Bonczynski; and three sisters, Edith Zumbahlam, Alyce Adams and Theresa Curtis. In lieu of flowers and plants, memorials are suggested to the family’s choice.
