Julia J. Schubert

Julia J. Schubert, 98, of St. Paul, died Sunday, Dec. 8, 2013, at her home. Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in St. Paul. The Rev. Ray Kosmicki will officiate. Inurnment will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Palmer. Mrs. Schubert chose to have her body cremated. There will be no visitation. Peters Funeral Home of St. Paul is in charge of the arrangements. Mrs. Schubert was born on Jan. 9, 1915, on a farm west of Palmer, the daughter of George and Josephine (Mueller) Zuehlke. She was united in marriage to Alfred Schubert on May 9, 1943, at St. Mary's Cathedral in Grand Island. He preceded her in death on July 8, 1994. She is survived by one brother, Raymond Zuehlke of Palmer. Julia attended Howard County rural schools. After she and Alfred were married, they farmed in the Palmer area their entire married life. In November 1994, she moved to St. Paul, where she lived the rest of her life. She was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, the Council of Catholic Women and the Quilters Group. Julia enjoyed handiwork such as quilting, tatting and crocheting. She also enjoyed crafts, playing cards and flowers. She and Alfred, traveled extensively in the United States, Nova Scotia and Mexico, as well as, a trip to Europe to visit relatives in the Eastern Zone. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; six sisters, Augusta Petersen, Mary Ziller, Lucy Baasch, Margaret Lilienthal, Anne Tracy and Cecelia Zuehlke; and three brothers, Edward, George and Louis Zuehlke.
