Dorine J. Barnes, 79, of St. Paul, formerly of Cotesfield, died Saturday, Jan. 16, 2016, at Brookefield Park in St. Paul. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Peters Funeral Home in St. Paul. The Rev. Mike Fowler will officiate. Burial will be in the Cotesfield Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Mrs. Barnes was born on Aug. 3, 1936, on the family farm northeast of Scotia, the daughter of Ivan and Lyla (Welch) Johnson. She was united in marriage to Byron L. Barnes on April 8, 1956, at Scotia. She is survived by her husband, Byron of St. Paul; two sons and daughters-in-law, Roger and Linda Barnes of Elba and Mark and Gloria Barnes of Newnan, GA; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Dean and Shirley Johnson of Fullerton and Darwin and Jenny Johnson of Holdrege; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Darlene Jensen of North Loup, Deanna and Larry Barta of Elyria and Delores and Allen Bennett of Palmer. She is also survived by 2 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Dorine grew up at Scotia where she attended Scotia Public School and graduated from Scotia High School in 1954. After graduation she began working as a nurse's aide at the Ord Hospital. After she and Byron were married they lived in Cotesfield and farmed and raised their sons in the Cotesfield area. They later moved to St. Paul, where she worked at Leth's IGA and Mid State News. In 1971, the family moved to Tulsa, OK where she worked at Oral Roberts University Nursing Home for over 20 years and later as a home healthcare worker. In 2000, the couple returned to the Barnes family farm near Cotesfield. In Nov. 2014, she moved to Brookefield Park in St. Paul, where she lived the rest of her life. Dorine enjoyed crocheting, flower arranging and reading her bible. She also loved mentoring young women through bible studies and spending time with her family. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers and sisters-in-law, Don and Betty Johnson and DeLyle and Katie Johnson; and a brother-in-law, Gerald Jensen.Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
