Mr. Matousek was born on June 17, 1931, on the family farm northeast of St. Paul, near Cushing, the son of Albert and Helen (Lukasewski) Matousek. He was united in marriage to Shirley A. Anderson on May 22, 1954, at St. Paul. She preceded him in death on Sept. 4, 2010. He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Chris Matousek of Overland Park, KS; one sister and brother-in-law, Delores and Jim Hurt of Kearney; one brother and sister-in-law, Ted and Cindy Matousek of York; a special friend, Donna Jensen of St. Paul; and nieces and nephews. Don received his early education at Cushing School, District No. 33 and 27 Howard County rural schools and was a 1949 graduate of St. Paul High School. He then went to work for Bob Nowak Propane Company in St. Paul. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict from April 1951 to Dec. 1953. After his discharge he returned St. Paul. He and Shirley first lived in St. Paul where he continued to work for Bob Nowak, until moving to Albion in 1955. He then worked for Kansas-Nebraska Gas Company until his retirement in 1995. The couple then moved to Grand Island until returning to St. Paul in 1999. He was an active member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, where he served as a Deacon, Worship assistant and usher. He was also a member of Carl Mogensen American Legion Post 119 of St. Paul and had been active in the Albion VFW Post for many years. He also served as a security policeman at Albion High School activities. Don loved his family and thoroughly enjoyed family reunions and get togethers. He also enjoyed playing cards, having a beer and loved to visit! In addition to his wife, Shirley, he was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother, Daniel Matousek. Memorials are suggested to St. Mark's Lutheran Church.
