David V. Bartunek

David V. Bartunek, 70, of St. Libory, died Monday, May 13, 2013, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Libory's Catholic Church in St. Libory. The Rev. Sidney B. Bruggeman will officiate. Mr. Bartunek's body will be cremated after the services. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the church, with a 7 p.m. vigil service. Peters Funeral Home of St. Paul is in charge of the arrangements. Mr. Bartunek was born on July 3, 1942, at Rockville, the son of Delvin and Matilda (Spotanski) Bartunek. He was united in marriage to Virginia L. “Ginny” Keller on Dec. 12, 1962, at Yankton, S.D. He is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Ginny Bartunek of St. Libory; four daughters and two sons-in-law, Lisa and Tony Leitschuck of Lincoln, Tonja and Lance Cunico of Colorado Springs, CO, Lana Leitschuck of Alda, and Sherise Bartunek and Randy Cosner of St. Libory; and a special nephew, Darren Bartunek of Phillips; one brother, Dennis Bartunek of Grand Island; and one sister-in-law, Fran Bartunek of Grand Island. He also leaves to cherish his memory, 12 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; as well as, many “adopted kids” and dear friends. Dave grew up in Rockville, where he attended St. Mary's parochial school. As a young man he worked for Redman Trailer in Grand Island. After he and Ginny married they first lived in Loup City and later in Grand Island where he worked at the Cornhusker Army Ammunitions Plant. In 1965 the couple moved to an acreage north of St. Libory, where they lived the rest of their married life. In 1970, Dave began working for Union Pacific Railroad, where he worked until 1995. He then worked for Great Lakes Consolidated Concrete until retiring in 2004. He was a member of St. Libory's Catholic Church and the Platt-Duetsche and American Legion and VFW of Grand Island. Dave enjoyed carpentry, mechanics, riding his Harley and was meticulous about his lawn and yardwork. He dearly loved his daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and attending their sports, school activities and telling them stories. He was a great “Papa”. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Dawayne and Dwight Bartunek. Memorials are suggested to the St. Libory's Catholic Church Wheelchair Ramp Fund.
